As of 1st May 2004, in the traffic within the EU there is no need of customs clearance any more.

However to and from countries outside we still have the former paperwork requirements as stated below.

General rule: quantity of each item to be imported should not exceed personal use.

 

PERSONAL EFFECTS and HOUSEHOLD GOODS

can be imported duty-free to Hungary if the following conditions are met:

owner is FOREIGN CITIZEN with Residency and Work Permit

following documents are required:

  • individually valued packing inventory in any language stating type and serial number of electrical appliances, photo of valuable furni­ture, painting, carpet
  • copy of passport, work or residency permit
  • power of attorney in Hungarian for EuroMove to customs clear
  • bank guarantee of a Hungarian bank, in most cases the Hun­garian employer can supply

There is no limitation in the number of shipments arriving at Hun­gary. In case work and residence permit is not ready at the time of the arrival of the shipment, client has 30 more days to present af­terwards. Missing deadline may result in fine.

owner is DIPLOMAT

following documents are required

  • individually valued packing inventory in any language stating type and serial number of electrical appliances, photo of valuable furni­ture, painting, carpet
  • Embassy certificate
  • copy of passport
  • power of attorney in Hungarian for EuroMove to customs clear

There is no limitation in the number of shipments arriving in Hun­gary.

owner is returning HUNGARIAN CITIZEN

following documents are required

  • individually valued packing inventory in any language stating type and serial number of electrical appliances, photo of valuable furni­ture, painting, carpet
  • power of attorney in Hungarian for EuroMove to customs clear
  • valid Hungarian ID with registration, tax card with fiscal #
  • declaration of the Hungarian Embassy in the origin country confirming living out of Hungary over 1 year
  • client's declaration that client possessed the items to be cleared longer than 6 months

VEHICLES

Expatriates' cars with foreign plate are allowed to drive in Hungary up to 6 months. 1 car/motorbike can be imported duty-free with the following documents after passing environmental test:

  • invoice of the car/bike or verification of value made out by the client
  • bank guarantee of a Hungarian bank, in most cases the Hun­garian employer can supply
  • original title of the car/bike
  • power of attorney in Hungarian for EuroMove to customs clear
  • copy of passport, work permit and residence permit
  • copy of driving licence
  • proof of valid liability insurance

After clearance EuroMove can arrange car registration as well.

FOODSTUFF

Not allowed to be imported duty-free. Up to normal quantity (not exceeding personal use) subject to duty.  

WINE AND SPIRITS

Duty-free up to the following quantity:

  • 1 litre of spirit
  • 2 litres of wine

No import is allowed over that quantity.

PERFUME

Duty-free up to the following quantity:

  • 250 ml eau de cologne
  • 100 ml perfume

No import is allowed over that quantity.

PLANTS

No limitation but plant health certificate is necessary.

PETS

No limitation but veterinary health certificate is necessary.

TOBACCO

Duty-free up to the following quantity:

  • 250 pcs cigarette
  • 50 pcs cigar
  • 250 gr tobacco

Over that but up to normal quantity (not exceeding personal use) subject to duty.
