Every
moving mechanical part has a bit of slack to avoid strain, which
may cause damage to these parts. Of course this is the case too
with gearing mechanism in Logitech MOMO Racing. This problem is
also easy to repair, but you need to remove the plastic cover before
it.
See guide on how to remove
cover
A total number of three cogwheels transfer forces
from motor to the steering wheel. The first, smallest one is attached
to the motor shaft (1), the second
(2) transmits torque to the third,
largest one (3) placed on the steering
column itself.
According to my observation, the knocking sound
is produced by the following reasons:
not enough grease
on cogwheels
not enough lubricant
on motor shaft
loose screws on
motor bracket
To remove these sounds place a bit more grease
between the cogs on each cogwheel, and onto the motor shaft, between
the smallest cogwheel and motor housing (4).
Finally tighten loose screws around motor (5).
VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure that you use grease
which won't harm the plastic! Don't use any kind of oil as it may
cause damage to plastic parts.
